Chris Lamming is a Key Account Manager and has been with Bluestone for just over 4 years, although he has been in the financial sector for 14 years. He is a great advocate for women and believes in hard work and celebrating women’s achievements!

We asked Chris…

What do you think makes a successful leader? And in particular women leaders?

The ability to dream big and inspire teams,  Sarina Wiegman would be a perfect example given the incredible leadership skills demonstrated by Sarina to take the England Lionesses from a team low on confidence to European Champions.

Who is an inspiration to you?

Growing up in Sheffield I would have to say Jessica Ennis-Hill, the hard work and dedication to deliver such consistent results at the highest level in sport is an inspiration to all. I’m sure Jessica’s performance at Super Saturday in the London 2012 olympics will have inspired many of today’s athletes.

The gender pay gap in finance is the second worst after the construction industry. What can organisations do to address this?

A systematic approach to inclusion at all stages of the employee journey would most certainly be a starting point with added focus on recruitment, career development and retention.

What is your advice for other women wanting to start a career in financial services?

Know your objectives and engage with your employer or future employers on those objectives as objectives will help measure progress.

This year’s IWD theme is #EmbraceEquity. What do you think can be done to embrace equity for women in the Financial Industry?

Celebrating women’s achievements!  Heavy workloads often contribute to achievements going unnoticed, although we must take time to celebrate achievements in order to deliver further progress and achievements.

Support us

This year, in honour of IWD, we’re supporting Smart Works. A charity that provides both interview training and clothing to help low-income women in the U.K get jobs and gain financial independence. By harnessing the power of clothes and coaching, the charity aims to build confidence for job success. You can help us reach our target by donating here.
